Re: CG vs QuickDraw

I would say, "native API for drawing rounded rectangles". :)
Kevin G.

I am, mostly for fun, trying to list the true strengths of CG vs QD as well as false
strengths, where CG is not as superior as some seem to think.

I am looking for suggestions. Here are the points I have so far:

Transparency, anti-aliasing: Not really an issue, QuickDraw does them pretty well.
Loading pictures: Much easier in QuickDraw.
Transformations: Big strength of CG. With much effort you can add it to QuickDraw,
but I havn't seen it as reusable code.
Scaling of metadata: Significant advantage.
Transparent windows: AFAIK you can't do that with QuickDraw.
Splines: Pretty big issue IMHO.

That's the ones I have come up with so far.

There are some issues where I havn't studied CG deep enough to make claims, like
the nice QuickDraw bottlenecks. Is it as easy to extract selected data from a PICT,
or filter the data (changing colors on the fly, replacing primitives...)?

My conclusion is of course that CG is more modern (no question about it), but it is
also fun to break some illusions of QD's inabilities while pointing out the REAL
strengths.
