64-bit performance on G5 wasn't much of a win, at least for us. The IPC
overhead more than ate up any gains from eliminating our own method of
handling "big data." It makes a much bigger difference on Intel. YMMV.
I also seem to recall that there were other Apple-induced "transitions"
keeping us busy at the time.
Still, my point was that no matter how well intentioned, Apple's advice
about development directions is pretty suspect, as far as I'm concerned.
(When you start remembering Copeland, it's not a good thing. Some
memories are best left to fade.)
