Re: Is Carbon Viable?

The point of a 64-bit browser is to put the "64-bit" label on it. Our plugin is pretty well stuck in the 32-bit era, so if either Safari or Firefox decides to go 64-bit, we've got problems.

Speaking of Firefox. From what I've read in bugzilla reports, Mac Firefox uses Carbon extensively even in the latest "Cocoa native" trunk. They seem to use Carbon event to "hack" Cocoa widgets to work the way they want them to, for example. Make you wonder why they didn't use HIView in the first place. Also ATSUI is used for text rendering if I remember correctly.

Wonder what would happen to the project if the set of APIs they rely on are not 64-bit proof. Of course, Mozilla is not too happy with Apple on Windows Safari/browser market share already.
