As I understand it, Intel has a mobile chip schedule for release in
2008 that doesn't have a 32-bit mode.
Where have you seen that? The only thing I found is that Windows
Server 2008 will be the last *Windows* *Server* release that will be
installable on 32 bit systems (although later versions will probably
still be able to run 32 bit applications). I have not seen anything
about Intel removing 32 bit modes. In fact, according to Wikipedia,
the x86-64 processors even still support 16 bit real mode today:
