Appologies. I someone managed to send both of these messages to the Carbon list, when I intended to send them to the Cocoa list.

Can author a book on Xcode but is still challenged by his e-mail client. ;-)

And is there anyone else who hates Unsanity/APE more that I do right now?

In all fairness, your animosity is probably misguided here. An APE module can have bugs in it, but that's not Unsanity's fault. And even if it's a module written by Unsanity, well, if you're going to hate Unsanity for having a bug that causes you a problem then a lot of us should *really* hate Apple because many of us have had to invest a lot of time, energy, and frustration working around bugs in Mac OS X, not to mention bugs in Xcode and Interface Builder. Personally, I miss the ability to customize my Mac (which I did *not* have to be restarted very often in Mac OS 9). APE provides a way around this limitation for those willing to risk possible problems, just as INITs and control panels did back in the classic days. One difference for us, though, is that back then it was fairly common knowledge that INITs and control panels could cause problems for other processes. Since that's far less common in Mac OS X, almost everyone will assume that if your software is experiencing a problem, it's a problem in your product.

Barring a better answer from the Cocoa list, if I were in your position I would do two things:

- Inform user X that the problem is the result of something being done by a haxie and that as far as you know it's not the result of anything wrong in your code.

- Have user X contact the author of the haxie to report the problem, and/or contact the author yourself.

I would not, however, change my own code to work around something like this unless I could trace the problem to something I'd done wrong in my code.

Just my $0.02.
