Here is a very simple test you can perform which illustrates a

problem

I am having with EditUnicodeTextControls:

In Interface Builder:

- Drag out a new window from the Carbon-Windows palette.

- Drag an EditText control into the window.

- Set the "Single line" attribute for the EditText control.

- Test this interface (i.e. run Carbon Simulator).

- Type some lengthy text into the EditText control... more than

can be displayed at one time in the control.

- Try to select a word or some characters near the end of the

text that you typed using either the mouse or holding the shift

key while typing arrow keys.

The problem is that the highlighting is all messed up.

I have tried this under several configurations of hardware and OS

version:

OS 10.3.9: Does not exhibit the problem.

OS 10.4.9: Exhibits the problem on both PowerPC and Intel hardware.

Is anyone else aware of this behavior? Is there a workaround to get

single line EditText controls to highlight properly?

I am thinking the problem is not in my code since Interface Builder

exhibits the problem, and since my carbon application works fine

under OS 10.3.9.

I can reproduce it, but I can't imagine any way you can correct

it. Just file a bug in Radar.

I have had rdar://4152081 open on this (or a similar) problem for a

long time.

If it's been fixed in Leopard, it's probably not going to be fixed in

Tiger. But if your bug is still open, that suggests it hasn't been

fixed in Leopard, in which case it needs more votes. ;-)

FYI, Cocoa NSTextField controls seem to highlight properly in Tiger, at least as
far as I am able to test with the Interface Builder "Test Interface" command.
Is there a way to embed/access Cocoa UIF elements within a C++ Carbon app?

I filed a bug report about this with the Bug Reporter on the ADC website this morning.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is Radar? Should I file a report there also?

Thanks, Larry and Jerry, for your comments.
