This still nearly always works, by the way -- you can run leaks against applications using MallocStackLogging without any trouble most of the time.

I certainly haven't had problems on PowerPC or Intel, so I'll second the vote of confidence.

As per the thread: I don't think anyone has explicitly said that MSL could be compiled so as to be thread-unsafe. If you're using Xcode, you should be fine. --
