That isn't a higher level description, it's a rewording of the original
question :) Exactly what type of app are you writing? Frankly this sounds like a keylogger to me, so be more descriptive! The Accessibility APIs might work for you—have you looked into those?—but they require the user to explicitly enable them, because they are invasive to the point where they can basically be considered a security hole.
