tracking a scroll bar

What's the right way to handle a scroll bar control? If I install a handler for kEventClassControl/kEventControlHit, then single clicks on the scroll arrows work right, but it does not auto-repeat if you click and hold. I'd expect that I would need to handle kEventControlTrack, except that the header comments on kEventControlTrack say that "Control Manager’s normal tracking logic... is good enough for ... controls with simple indicators (such as scroll bars and sliders)." (I have the live tracking of the indicator working, no need to tell me about that.)
