On June 11 Aaron asked why media files were not appearing in the
Media pane of IB 3.0 for a Carbon project, and Kevin G. responded
that he had found these appear only in Cocoa projects, not Carbon
projects.
My question: does this mean that there really is no way, in a
Carbon project, to use IB to prototype dialogs that contain images?
In the old Resourcerer one could simply reference an image and
arrange it nicely in a dlog resource, and Dialog Manager would take
care of drawing the image as intended. In XCode/IB Carbon it seems
it's necessary to place a HIImageView box and then manually load an
image to it in run time code, without any ability to see the actual
image in IB...?
Yes you seem to have the gist of it exactly right, and it is truly
safe to say that there will never, ever, ever be Resource support for
Carbon apps in IB. Not even the most basic icons and images. And in
fact it actually gets measurably worse each release not better. If
I'm not mistaken it was recently pointed out that the newest IB can
not accept icon types as 4 char codes.
And yes you are also correct that this was easy as pie on OS 9 and
those ancient old machines. Clearly, Carbon development is beyond the
grasp of the IB team, and clearly, it is was never a priority.
More later,
Jack
