Learning a new language that is based on a different paradigm than what you are used to is a very good investment. It forces you to see old things from a new point of view, and that enhances the flexibility of your mind.

Then I still prefer investments I really can use for anything than rapid prototyping on X. Given I deploy applications on up to 5 platforms, at least I prefer "portable" skills.
