CG Gradients

It seems that in core graphics to do a gradient there is this callback to change the colors. That seems like a very inefficient implementation to me. Are there any plans to provide an ability to provide a list of colors and the midpoints between the color changes. This way there could be all kinds of opportunities for optimization and caching internal to the implementation of gradients.

Also, what about other shapes where the color change is in both the x and y directions? (For example, rectangle or diamond shaped gradients or even arbitrary "mesh" like gradients based on paths.
