It's NSStatusItem. If you want to get yours installed to the far right, I think it involves something funky like force-quitting the SystemUIServer and getting it to reload you first. Or you could violate Apple's private SPI and implement your item as a MenuExtra, which can be dragged wherever the user chooses.
