custom draw procedures

Hello!

DataBrowser control allows to install a custom drawing procedure, which can be used to draw the contents.
What about other controls? I am currently interested in relevance bar control. Can I somehow temper with it to be able to draw its strip myself?
If I want the relevance control's bar to be yellow, for example - what should I do? Will the approach (if any) be universal and can it be applied to other controls?
