Same here. It's a very common practice at Apple to be able to login to our
netinfo accounts from any machine at Apple. That machine might be running
10.1 or 10.2.6 or 10.3 (7B52). For this reason most of our app developers
attempt to keep their preferences as backwards compatible as possible.

Unlike prior to CFPreferences when adding a field to a struct pretty much
messed everything up we can now just add a new key and the old version of
the app will just ignore it and the new app will ignore any old keys still
in the preference data. This makes changing things in the preference file
much safer than before. ;-)
