No guidelines for splash screens. I don't have one. I'd rather launch fast
and not need one.

Very detailed guidelines for About boxes in OS X. See the Aqua Human
Interface Guidelines for the guidelines (what a concept, eh?).

You've obviously not used Photoshop 7 in OS X then. This is very dependent
on the application and how long it takes to load. Photoshop 7's splash
screen stays up for 10 seconds on my 1 GHz PowerBook G4 (and it doesn't come
for a few seconds) if it's a cold launch. Absolutely pathetic IMO.
