Here's my take...I've just been to one WWDC (back in 2000).

Being the only person that went from my company, it was impossible to attend all the sessions. You may want to consider saving your cash and just purchasing the entire session set on DVD.

Also, many things are at a high-level and other than some of the early-bird sessions, nothing involved any hands-on stuff.

I've heard that various "kitchens" are often better as you get to work directly with Apple engineers on your code.

WWDC was fun though and a great place to meet people.

Also - where is a good place to stay that will not break the bank?

Apple usually gets bulk rates at various hotels...I believe the WWDC site would have that info. As to if you could get cheaper places, I wouldn't know.
