Scratch that. We had a copy-and-paste error that had fooled me into believing our kEventWindowDrawContent was firing when actually it was a kEventWindowUpdate we had received. And it's the Update one that happens in response to an invalidate. I had not given it any attention because I didn't think it was involved, but it turns out that this is the critical one.
