Your solution here is to implement custom columns and provide your own
drawing callbacks for these properties. It may be more effort than the
results would warrant.

Pre Panther the Finder used the Databrowser for its list views, but 'rolled
its own' for the columns. I am getting the impression from my previous post
about drawing background labels, and your observation that it vertically
aligns text to the center, that _either_ there are new API's for the DB that
have yet to be exposed to us, _or_ the Finder no longer uses the DB for list
views either.

If the Finder no longer uses DB, then I would be deeply disappointed. What
justification would us mere app. developers have for continuing to use DB if
Apple are abandoning it in their own code.
