From the standpoint of a "Mac application" you don't really need the
pathname -- most APIs use FSSpec (or better yet, FSRef).

If you need to save and reload a file between application launches, Aliases
will be your friend.

Given that, there is still a lot of code on Apple's website that allows you
to convert from FSSpec to path and back. Look at MoreFiles for a
pre-written code that does that and more.
