There was a session on the WWDC schedule (which was posted at Apple's
WWDC site) called "Using the Spotlight Framework".

From this I think it is safe to surmise that Spotlight is more than
simply a feature of the finder... it is a framework for searching and
modifying the metadata that is stored on the system.

Unfortunately, you are likely to have to wait for the Tiger
documentation to be released for more information :-(
