What would be the best way to modify the plist? Is getting a handle to the file and manually adding everything the best way, or is there a better way?Use CFPreferences. If you ask dts they will provide you with sample code for it.

Why don't you update the loginwindow.plist file to achieve the same results as obtained by the user adding the application in the preference pane. You can probably do this in your installer._______________________________________________

Subject: Launch at Login
Is there a relatively sane way that I can have an application launch
when the user logs in without requiring the user to add the application
to the login items preference pane?
Thank you in advance.
