Re: Tiger, File Searching and MetaData

Does anyone know whether Spotlight has a 'file-type' specific action for previewing/playing/opening search results ?

I am thinking mainly about media files.

On the topic of metadata.

Does anyone know how we can embed metadata into a file which will be picked up by the new search ? Does it read any standard metadata fields for specific filetypes ?

For example, will it read Quicktime Movie annotations ?

Is it possible to write a plug in to allow it to gather non-standard metadata from unusual files ?

Look at the web page that was posted earlier

There is a section labelled "Application Metadata-Awareness". The last sentence to the first paragraph reads:

"Spotlight can be extended to any new file format, automatically adding an application's information to your search results."
