Okay, so let's clear up one thing...you aren't, by your actions, controlling
internet access. You're controlling application access. They aren't the
same.

To block internet access, the appropriate place to do this is on your router
or firewall, which is the choke point for your internet access. I would
recommend doing this there, and not relying on a method that can be bypassed
in seconds, and is now causing you problems.
