That would be cool but in my eyes they need to fix some minor design flaws in their XRAID first. 1.) hardware redundant RAID controllers 2.) access to all 14 bays from either controller.

correct me if they've already done this. The software solution works but
I'd rather see it in hardware so the CPU is free for me to abuse.

No, an Xserve RAID is still basically two 7 disk arrays in one cabinet.
