I'm really sorry for even bringing NetInfo up. ;-)
So a client has 10.2.6 server with 10.2.8 clients bound via NetInfo. The
server crashed and they repaired it with DiskWarrior. I checked /Volumes and
there are no volume names. After repairing the disk, some clients could log
in while others cannot and yet others wouldn't even authenticate. Some are
students while some are teachers. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. I
turned homes off and deleted the automount and sharepoint. After a restart I
re-shared, reconfigured the automount and home. Same problems. My next
assumption was that there was a problem with the NetInfo db. I replaced
local and network with one from a backup. At this point authentication
became reliable but some would log in and others would get kicked back to
the login window shortly after choosing a workgroup (workgroup selection
doesn't matter). At this point I restored the entire boot partition from
backup. Again same situation, some clients log in just fine while others
authenticate but then return to the login window. I followed some
troubleshooting found at afp548
<http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20040803154206687> . My mounts show
up however when I run automount I get an error "Can't mount map -mnt on
/automount/Servers: No such file or directory" then it proceeds to say
"Starting service". A peak in /Network/Servers reveals that it has in fact
been mounted there. Oddly (or not) even after a restart and login as the
local admin
/private/Network/Servers/serverName/Volumes/serverVol/serverAutomounts are
there but the majority of the contents are missing. I don't know what the
default behavior should be or if I'm completely up the wrong tree here.
Thanks,
Kevin
