Macintosh Manager works fine with Workgroup Manager on
Panther, so I would hope it would work with Tiger. I have a site
where were using 9.2.2 clients and 10.3.9 clients and users can
login to either and access their home directories.
Keep in mind that the preferences are different for 9 and X, so
things that you have set for the students logging into 9 clients will
not be set in X.
