Work Group Manager is used to manage OS X. MacManager for OS9. They both reside on OS X server and share the same home folder. Thus student A will access her home folder via mac manager on an OS 9 machine and access the same home folder via WGM on an OS X machine. All of this works fine on Panther Server. Whether all will be well using Tiger remains to be seen.

WGM is a HUGE jump from MM. You've got a lot of reading AND TRIAL AND ERROR ahead:

You might try:

1) MacLemale's site is a good start. http://homepage.mac.com/ richardmaclemale/mac_networking.htm

2) Detroye's tips and tricks next: http://homepage.mac.com/johnd/ album.html

3) Your Tiger server admin guide.

One and two above are for Panther server. Tiger is not out yet so you will be on your own. Expect to read through the documentation 4 or 5 times in setting up WGM and MM. If you have a copy of Panther server you might seriously consider setting up first with panther and migrating to Tiger once the bugs are worked out. I am sure there will be a few.

Our site also has a few quickstart guides as well.

One very nice one is here <http://www.afp548.com/filemgmt/visit.php? lid=17>.

We also cross host John's T&T documents.
