HI,
I have a WGM 10.3.8 on a G5 with a lab of 32 e-macs and a school full
of imacs (9.2.2) and ibooks (9.2.2). I have e-mail on my older G4
server using server admin 10.1.3. The reason I have it on this server
is that it works just fine; the staff's names had to be changed for the
new server and I didn't want them to have to deal with new e-mail
addresses.. until next year. The problem is that one teacher who is
using outlook express on a 9.2.2 imac, created a new user account using
another user's name on the server. I had created a user on the server
called "alumni" and this teacher went to "tools" and then "accounts" in
outlook express and setup the new account. He should have gone to File
and created a "new Identitiy".. I think. Anyway, since he did this he
can no longer check his mail. The mail attempts to be loaded but
finally gives an error that the server may be busy and to check with
admin. All other accounts work just fine. Now, this person can send
mail just fine, but cannot retrieve, so I know there is something wrong
my mailserver. I have checked his account setting, which hasn't been
changed and looked around for a mailbox with his name on it, but there
is none. It seems that the mail is all kept in a db file.
My question is this. Can I delete this db file and will the mailserver
generate a new one and hopefully resolve any problems with this user's
account? I know that I would probably lose some current mail, but maybe
that is the tradeoff. I would have all staff (20) check their mail
prior to me deleting this file, so they would get current mail. The
teacher who screwed up, would just lose out.
Any other suggestions prior to my doing surgery on this file?
Thanks..
