Re: Laptops not connecting

From everything I've read and from the Apple techs I've talked to I believe a manual LDAP path is preferred. That would divorce the process from the DHCP renewal and may eliminate your problem.

I'm a bit new to macs and LDAP directories, could you elaborate a little

Here's what I have: In Applications - Utilities - Directory Access, I have
the laptops configured to "Use a DHCP-supplied LDAP server". All the other
laptops are configured this way also - no problems with them.

DHCP leases are set for 5 days.

As I said in the posting, when I renew the DHCP lease under System
Preferences - Network - TCP/IP settings, that fixes it until the machine is
turned off. Upon reboot, the problem occurs again.

Thanks very much.

Mr. Butte,

Are you using DHCP to access LDAP if so that is your problem. You need
to manually set the LDAP settings for it to work correctly. I
personally don't rely on DHCP for those settings. They are a little
slow and temperamental.

I have two iBooks that are frequently not allowing users to login
wirelessly to our LDAP network server.  Usually, all I have to do is
login to the local admin account and renew the DHCP lease.  However,
each time the laptop is shut down, it needs to have this process
repeated.  Any idea where my problem lies?  Thanks.
