Apple Mail : max db size?

Howdy folks we are looking to abandon the use of Entourage and was wondering if there is a 'real world' size limit for a Apple Mail mbox.

Entourage v.x starts to act buggy as the db approaches 2GB and they have said the limit has been raised to 4GB in 2004, but I can't find any info on Apple Mail. Any real world advice or docs that I am missing?
