Mobile Users Disappear

Title: Mobile Users Disappear
I had my second iBook in a week where mobile user accounts no longer appear in the list of accounts available at log in.  Further the account no longer shows up in the accounts section of system preference.  The folder is still available under users and the local admin account is unaffected.  But the user can not log in, even if they choose “other” and try to log in that way.

So far I have been able to fix this by deleting MCX records through NetInfo Manager and then running a disk repair.  Once this is done, I log in as the user through the “other” option at login.  The account appears as if nothing had happened.  While this is working now, it makes me nervous and wondered if anyone had seen this and if there is a better solution.  We are using 10.3.8 client and server.
