Re: Connect 10.4.2 clients to 10.3.9 Server doesn't



I second Josh's post re:  OD promotion.  Since I teach
a course involving this procedure, inevitably one
student's promotion fails.  Sure, sometimes it is just
bad luck.  Mostly, though, it is because something is
wrong with DNS initially.  

If the student has saved the configuration in a
directory record on my server, an Erase/Install gets
the machine to reconfigure itself after reinstall. 
How lucky.

But, suppose you haven't saved that configuration file
at all?  If that is the case, you can go back in and
demote, clean up the LDAP data, even change the
hostname in /etc/hostconfig...etc.  It isn't trivial
or fun.  Take Josh's advice:  Do NOT promote unless
all of your resolution, forward and reverse, looks
perfect.
