G5's have some extra things on them to run the G5. Images made of a G4

Generally speaking, they work fine as long as the OS is up-to-date
with all the right drivers. We have a deployment image that I
created on a G4 PowerBook and it works fine on our 2.5 DP G5s.
The easiest thing to do is build your image on the absolute newest
hardware you have, that way you are sure to have all the drivers.
For info.. in case some LIST members aren't aware of how to do this,
the best way is to always use the stand-alone 'combo' updater and
don't let Software Update do it for you.
This appears to be pretty much the standard practice employed by
RADMIND users to ensure images work with the latest hardware, without
necessarily having that latest hardware to use for image creation.
The only problem is the time slot between the first release of new
hardware which come with a 'patch' to the current OS, and before the
next 'combo' updater appears.
