Ftp proxy issue

Hi,

If anyone has any experience of configuring ftp proxies on the Mac I would
be grateful for their input.

We are using a Squid proxy server.

We have 2 ftp proxy options, neither of which seem to work on the Mac but
which work fine on a PC.

If I add the ftp proxy in System Preferences it will not allow me to
download printer drivers from the HP ftp website (you access the link
through http://www.hp.com, drivers etc.).
It doesn't make any difference if I add my username and password for the ftp
proxy in System Preferences.

If I try to download a file from a pc, my username and password are recorded
on the Squid server. If I try to download the same file from a Mac it fails
and the Squid server says 'None' i.e. It doesn't have my username and
password.

Passive FTP is ticked in System Preferences.

If I use Fetch, I have to set the following preferences:
Under the Proxy tab,

Set the Proxy type as; USER after logon

 Insert the Proxy details and

Then enter your proxy username and password underneath.

 Close the window.

 Quit and restart Fetch.

If I do that it works.
If I don't enter my proxy username and password it won't work.

Hopefully someone can put us in the right direction.

TIA,

Tom.
