Well, it's certainly possible to use authentication centrally and keep
home directories on the computer you're actually logging into. That's
one of the easy setup options that Mac OS X Server allows.
What you'll find is that if Ursula User has logged onto six computers
then all six have home directories for her, each with different things
in.
