OSX Software Packaging



While managing a large group of OSX workstations, a lot of my time has been spent repackaging software for remote installation. I'm a big fan of the Debian package management system and the Fink project. I see some potential in the Apple package system with PackageMaker, Installer, /Library/Receipts, and the bom files.

I would like to have a software management system with the following properties:
- one line / command line install, uninstall, repair
- clickable gui install, uninstall, repair
- handles conflicts and dependencies
- runs locally.
- keeps a software inventory
- uses osx package and receipt system
- works with commercial apps ( Microsoft, Adobe, Macromedia, etc... )
- has some system where a community can maintain the packages... or at least the instructions for making the packages


Have these issues already been addressed by an Open Source or Commercial application?
