The majority of computers on our site are Dell's. The systems are purchased
with an extended warranty. We do the same with the Macintosh computers by
purchasing AppleCare for them. This is because of the purchase cycle of the
systems. Because the purchase cycle is over 3 years from the time the
computer arrives on campus until the time the system is retired, we found it
better to have the extended warranties than not.
The smaller items like replacing mice or keyboards may not amount to much
but when you start looking at replacing RAM or a motherboard the price can
add up quickly, especially for laptops.
