I suspect you have an entry in your WGM lists that is not visible and
could be causing this behavior.
WGM manages two separate lists in the LDAP database:
1. A list of all computers (no matter what computer list they're in)
2. A list of computer lists, each one containing the names of the
computers in them
It is not uncommon for the two lists to get out of sync, resulting in
a computer entry existing in #1 but not in #2 (and vice-versa). This
can result in computers existing in the database, but not being
displayed in WGM.
You can explore this with Workgroup Manager's "Inspector" option that
is enabled in WGM's preferences. See if you can find the two lists
I'm talking about and possibly find the bad entry (or entries).

We have a lab of 24 client computers (10.4.2) with a host 10.3.9
LDAP OD master. All have directory service pointing to the master,

(System Preferences:Sharing), but are unable to do so. The change
is always reset back to the original name after a logout. We have
deleted the LDAP directory service entry (even deleted the entire
DirectoryService folder) and have removed the computers from the
managed WGM list, but still no success. Using the command line
"hostname" to attempt the rename doesn't work either.
Would anyone have any thoughts on the cause of this and a
possible solution?
