What server version are you running? Have you applied the latest
security update (2005-09)? I've seen yesterday that this update
breaks IMAP on the server ("AGAIN!")
Anything enlightening in the logs on the client or server?
Does this problem affect all users?
Does the client go off-line when it stops checking for new mail?
You could MOVE the preferences out of the way while you test, and
then put it back.

I've got a dozen or so Mac users with network homes (AFP shared &
automounted). The users use Apple Mail to contact our IMAP server
(on Tiger Server). Periodically, Apple Mail seems to stop checking
for new mail in the INBOX and other folders. In other words, new
mail is arriving in the INBOX, but Apple Mail doesn't seem to see
it or try to see it. We know the mail is getting there because we
check with other clients (i.e. our web mail or Apple Mail on the
user's laptop (doesn't connect to network home)).
To try to fix the problem without wiping the user's ~/Library/
Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and ~/Library/Mail, I've tried
"rebuilding" the INBOX and "synchronizing" the particular account.
These don't work. I've looked at the settings in the
com.apple.mail.plist file, but there's nothing jumping out at me as
being wrong. I've even cleared out the user's ~/Library/Caches/
Mail, but that didn't help.
I'm looking for some less destructive way to fix this problem. Any
ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!
