They can't, by design.

From John D's latest T&T (August, 2005 - Posted Tips and Tricks v12b):
A note about Simple Finder: It’s not even close to what Panels was under MacMgr, so
don’t try to make it act like that. Simple Finder (or Finder for Kids - FFK) does not support
mounting network volumes, creating new folders, deleting anything, or basically working as
any educator would need it to. Since the escalations about it not performing as needed
(versus performing as designed) have dropped to nothing for the past year or so, don’t count
on this changing either.
