Midi setup - ByHost setting and com.apple.audio.midi.plist

I've been banging away setting up our Music lab load.

The lab iMac G5's all have identical Fastlane usb to midi converters, and Roland Juno-D synths.

We found that Finale and Digital Performer are not immediately getting their settings correct when individual users log in. If an individual user goes into Audio Midi Setup and just checks things and does an Apply, the settings for that user/machine combo will usually be correct.

With some digging, I found each machine was coming up with a different ByHost/com.apple.audio.midi.00000000.plist file. For the most part...I think I've found that if I pre-populate each user's Library/prefs/ByHost folder with all the individual music machines plist's, and add a common com.audio.midi.plist file into their /Lib/prefs folder.... they won't ever have to touch the audio settings.

BUT, I've found a couple of cases where it seems the users have to check their settings no matter what. I'm not sure if a couple of machines just have a slightly different usb converter, or what, but on login, the settings aren't quite right.

So...I'm asking the rest of you who've had to set this stuff up.... have you found the magic items to set, so no user ever has to touch their own audio midi settings?

Instead of adding all the individual, machine -specific audiomidi settings, I've considered using a ByHost script to alter one core setting... but until I figure out what settings have to be perfect everywhere else...I don't want to devote any more time to this endeavor.

Thanks for any help in advance,
