10.4.2 was doing the same thing here over the summer. We had strange login
anomolies and mail issues. It seemed to be an issue with the networked home
directories on our X Serve Raid. We ended up going back to 10.3.9 for
everything and dealing until the bugs are worked out.
Luckily for me the Tiger Netboot server is working phenomenally.
Thank god we had to experiment over the summer when they were building our
new server room.
