Hi,
I have 30 e-macs running panther 10.3.9 and classic, a G5 server
running 10.3.9, and a G4 that is used for datapaths for several
Applications.
My problem is with Sunburst Software. I have Type to Learn 3 (native
OSX) working just great. I have the data on my G4 server and have set
up a user called TTLUSER, having RW permissions in the TTL data folder
on the G4. I have done a full install on the clients, so the only
thing the server is used for is saving student progress in the TTL
folder.
For my initial setup of Type To Learn I logged in to the TTLData folder
via TTlUser and then did a full install. I was asked for a data path
and chose the the mounted TTLdata. I quit TTL and disconnected from
the TTLData . I restarted TTL and the Datapath automatically
mounted.
The students could choose their teacher, their class and then their
name... AND it is speedy!!!
Now for my problem. I purchased a network version of Type for Fun. It
runs in Classic, but that is okay since I have the old TTlearn running
in classic with no problems at all. The instructions that came with
Type for Fun said that I could use the TTL3 data. So, I first
installed it to the server per instructions and gave RW permissions to
the TTLuser User as I had in Type to Learn 3. I then logged into a
client and mounted the TTLData volume. Next, I did a full install and
chose the TTLData as the data path. Restarted the machine. I launched
Type for Fun and here is where the Fun began. The datapath mounted as
in Type To Learn 3. The program presents the user with 3 columns..
First column is the teacher name.. It had two listed (as it should) and
I selected one of them. The next column is the class (it had Gr2, Gr3,
Gr4, and Gr 5). I selected a class and IT TOOK 2 MINUTES FOR THE
NAMES TO APPEAR. BUT they did finally appear which means that the
permissions are setup correclty and the datapath is valid.
I tried moving the data path to different locations to no avail. No
matter what I did it took 2 minutes for the names to come up.
So, I moved the datapath to the client machine and set the datapath up
accordingly in the program. It still took 2 minutes for the names to
appear. And it wasn't even going across my speedy network.
Any ideas as to the problem? Is this just not a good piece of software
for the Mac? Did I waste 800 dollars? Tech support at Sunburst was
not very helpful.
I can't understand what is happening that it takes so long for the
names to appear.
Thanks..
