Hi,
Have any of your seen iMac G5 (iSight version) that randomly display the spinning beach ball, are unable to Force Quit applications and require to be force-restarted using the power button on the back?
I have a client who has had a rough time using his brand new iMac G5 iSight. He has been experiencing these problems.
We used the data migration assistant to bring over everything from his old G3-based iMac that was using OS X 10.3. This is actually his second iMac G5. His first one had a defective USB port so Apple replaced the first iMac with a second one. They used the data migration assistant to move his data from the first one to the second one.
Within a day or two he started experiencing these problems with this second iMac. I ran Apple Hardware Test and the iMac passed all tests. I've disconnected all 3rd peripherals. He only connects them briefly when he needs to use one of them. I also removed the 512 MB DIMM that the Apple Store installed. For the past 24 hours he has not experienced the problem but I'm not convinced that it won't come back.
If the problem has, indeed, disappeared, then I suspect the cause could be the RAM DIMM. The same DIMM was put in both the first iMac and the second iMac.
Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody has seen anything similar or if you have any other ideas of what I can do to pinpoint the cause of these spinning beach balls and forced restarts.
There isn't a panic.log. I've checked Crash Reporter, System Log and other log files but I haven't found anything useful.
I couldn't find anything use in our archives or Apple's support area for the iMac G5.
Thanks for your input. --Tim
