Home Folders shared via AFP
I have been having some problems recently with Entourage (Microsoft version
.X), Easy Grade Pro (Grading software), Microsoft Word (v.X), and
Appleworks.
All seem to be related, first was the Entourge, when trying to access mail
our clients were receive a lot of permission errors, permission denied being
the exact error I believe, this only happened on clients that had there home
folder on our server, local clients (new iMacs) are having no issues,
probably because they have administrative access on there computers. (no
yelling at me for this). A strange fix for this issue was restarting the
computer twice, I swear that fixed it, not sure if it was actually
restarting the computer that fixed it, or something else i.e. Timing. Now
that is not evening working.
The Easy Grade Pro issue was it giving the error of not being able to save,
not a file corruption problem, I copied the file to my local hard drive,
opened it with no problems and saved with no problems.
Word and Appleworks, same kind of thing.
So, my real question lies on why is this happening?
I have put ACLs on the clients home folders but that has not fixed the
problem.
If anyone else has seen any of these problems or has heard of this and has a
better solution, cause I am not sure this will fix it, please let me know.
Another thing I should mention, this is a problem that has developed over
the year. Quite recently actually, like couple of weeks.
This is not something that was present after the installed of our tiger
server, nor were these present after the installation of tiger clients, both
over the summer/early fall months. I would be the only fingers in the
server and I can say I have made no major changes. Well, except for
software updates. My thoughts would link this to the 10.4.3 upgrade, but
just a thought, I have no proof. Thinking is sometimes dangerous but I have
made no other major modifications on this server.
