This topic has come up many times on that list over the years and
there is good info from people that know far more than me in that
archive. Changing IP's for your server can certainly be done, and
work well. However, you need to take care/do work to make sure it
moves smoothy. Exactly how much depends on exactly which services on
Mac OS X server that you use. On my two little Xserves, changing IP
is cake since about the only two services used are resharing some NFS
mounts via AFP, and ssh. However, most people run many more
services, and ones that are more IP dependent - like Open Directory.

We've just been given our new school. Opening a new school in the
middle of the year is really an experience I hope to avoid for the
rest of my life, but we are getting by. It is such an improvement
from our old place we are smiling from ear to ear. One of the new
things is a VOIP system for the phones connected to our network.
It has caused a few surprises. We were told initially it would be
a plug and play and we would be using our X Serve there. Well we
had to change all the IP's because the internet phones required
it. Well changing the IP on the server is not a recommended thing
to do. What I am looking for is advise on what I should be looking
for as surprises in the future. I've already found that AppleTalk
is pitching fits. First you can see the servers and the printers
and then they disappear. On the OS 9 machines we redo the
Appletalk Preferences and we are hoping it holds. Printing has
been a nightmare today.
Any comments on what my future may be like?
Thanks.
