Tiger macs don't respond to scan

I can't figure this problem:

I cannot port scan 10.4 macs on the other side of a bridged wireless
access point.

After rolling out 10.4 on client workstations, I''ve noticed that macs
bridged by wifi will not respond to the Timbuktu scanner or the ARD
scanner or the Retrospect scanner. They simply don't show up. I can make
a direct connection with TB2 or a static connection with Retrospect, but
ARD refuses to talk to them at all. There's no NAT, no firewall in play.
All the macs in question have routable IP addresses bridged by a wireless
accesss point with a routable IP address. Doesn't seem to matter what
kind of access point (we've all kinds (apple snow, graphite, lynksis
wg603, orinocos). All these macs were working fine under 10.3.x. Indeed,
I have re-imaged a few machines with panther just to test my theory - they
suddenly work again.

I have fully updated all the tiger installs with the latest airport
patches but not yet applied the 10.4.4 updates as of this morning.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Please cc me in your
replies - I'm in digest.

TIA,
mark
