Setting the Firewall on Client Machines

Are there advantages or disadvantages to turning on the Firewall on individual computers in a managed environment?

If you would recommend turning on the firewall, are there any ports that need to be left open besides network time server and Remote Desktop?

I have a  High School network  up  with 10.3 clients and 10.3 server (approximately 200 workstations and 4 servers)

I have never turned on the Firewall on a client computer but I am now looking at setting up a new lab of machines with my first 10.4 image.  SInce I am building this image from scratch it is the time to make any changes.

Thanks for any info you can share
