If you would recommend turning on the firewall, are there any ports
that need to be left open besides network time server and Remote
Desktop?
I have a High School network up with 10.3 clients and 10.3
server (approximately 200 workstations and 4 servers)
I have never turned on the Firewall on a client computer but I am
now looking at setting up a new lab of machines with my first 10.4
image. SInce I am building this image from scratch it is the time
to make any changes.
In a lab setting, inside a LAN where you don't have publicly-
accessible IP addresses, I can't imagine being much concerned about
incoming connections to your clients. Blocking outgoing traffic could
be nice for preventing the use of certain applications (like
Acquisition), but that's more easily done at the network level with a
real firewall.
